Are Bearded Dragons Good Pets?

As long as they are treated kindly and cared for properly bearded dragons are friendly, and usually regarded as one of the more tame reptile pets. As is the case with any reptile, they are not cuddly, but they do have a mild temperament and are easy to handle. They have a remarkably easy-going nature, which makes them the perfect pet for beginner keepers, and also for children when under supervision.

As long as you have taken the time and care setting up the right environment for them (temperature range, lighting, UVB, diet, etc.), beardies are relatively simple to care for. It is always essential that you keep them fed and well-hydrated. They must also be kept in a habitat that gives them enough space, that is cleaned regularly and you are using the correct equipment, they are socialized with humans regularly you will allow them to be themselves which are friendly, tame and great pets.

Bearded dragons have a particularly long lifespan in captivity, in the wild, they live on average 5-7 years when compared to how they thrive in a captive environment in which they can live well into their late teens. Their longevity makes them a great long-term family pet.

As long as dragons are allowed the correct lighting they can grow up to anywhere between 18-22 inches long, sometimes a little bigger, which means they are neither too big making them difficult to handle, nor are they so small they would be hard to handle for that reason either. They will need to spend a lot of time in their tank being exposed to their lights as this allows them to absorb nutrients from their food and grow. However, that doesn't mean they have to stay in their tank all the time, they can still safely come out and socialize for a few hours per day and you can also let them explore their environment as long as they are supervised so they don't get lost. It will be entertaining for the family to spend time with their dragon holding them or watching them interact with the world around them.
